Did you know that every author has a theme song for their books? I didn’t either, but according to John Dougherty, they do…and authors always tell the truth. That’s why, before John began his session in earnest this afternoon, he sang the ‘Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face Song’. It was, as you can probably imagine, a modern classic in the making.

Throughout the event, there was a lot of laughter and not just from the children in the audience. There were distinct guffaws from the adults too; particularly when John read from the Evilness of Pizza. Some badgers are especially stupid!

As well as answering questions about his books, John shared a poem with the audience and sang another song – this time with a distinctly pants-related theme. This also resulted in lots of giggling from the audience.

John has written A LOT of books – lucky children. Why? Well, firstly because he didn’t want to be a teacher anymore and secondly, because of his love of reading. The key to reading is to enjoy it. John is very clear on that. ‘Read for fun!’ And if you read John’s books, that’s just what you’ll be doing. Thanks to John for making a rainy afternoon so much fun.
